Mansion-LaLigaSports was proclaimed the winner of the Isolas Silver Cup 1892 handicap 12-14 in the International Tournament MANSION Polo, after beating Sainte Mesme 10-6 in the final played on Friday at the Santa Maria Polo Club in Sotogrande. The mayor of San Roque, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, and the Deputy Minister of Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía, Manuel Alejandro Cardenete, were responsible for delivering the trophies. Also today was held at the same site the final of the Federation Cup U18 Polo Teams, in which Spain won over France.
The Silver Cup is the second title in relevance of this competition, which is considered one of the most important in the world. In Sotogrande meet this summer polo players from different countries, including the United States, Argentina, United Kingdom, France, Sweden, and Spain. Today’s match was followed by numerous spectators in an atmosphere of maximum expectation. On August 30th, the final of the Gold Cup will be played, which is the main trophy of this sport event.
This afternoon’s match, which took place on court III of the Los Pinos complex, had a very intense rhythm, typical of the great finals. Mansion-LaLigaSports, a team formed by Pedro Beca, Patricio Neves, Nicolás Ruiz Guiñazu and Pelayo Berazadi, were always ahead on the scoreboard. Sainte Mesme played with Birger and Robert Strom, Clemente Zavaleta and Salvador Jauretche.
After the match, the trophy ceremony was held on the same court. The mayor of San Roque, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, accompanied by Paul Lucas, representing Isolas, handed over the Isolas 1892 Silver Cup handicap 12-14 to Mansion-LaLigaSports. The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Manuel Alejandro Cardenete, did the same with the finalist team, Sainte Mesme. Pedro Beca received the award for best player of the match from Chris Mousdell, representing Mansion. Birger Strom was chosen best skipper, an award given by Rafael Guerrero, Covap’s commercial director. And the mare La Soñadora, by Pelayo Berazadi, was awarded the HOLA! trophy for the best horse in the final, from the hands of the vice-president of Tourism.
National victory in under-18
An hour and a half before this decisive match, the Santa Maria Polo Club hosted another great final: The U-18 Federation Cup between Spain and France, in which our country won 5-4. The team formed by José Trenor Jr, Luis Rufino, Micaela Soto and Roberto Iturrioz dominated the match from the second chukker, always with a goal up until the final result. This competition is organized by the Royal Spanish Polo Federation and Santa Maria Polo Club itself, with the sponsorship of LaLigaSports and the Consejo Superior de Deportes.
After this intense day, the 49th MANSION International Polo Tournament continues. This Saturday, August 15th, we will be able to witness the final of the Isolas 1892 Silver Cup handicap 4-6. At 7pm, Águilas and Fray Guen Indi will face each other on court IV in Los Pinos. Previously, at 17.00 hours, the subsidiary final will be held in court II between Santa Quiteria and Biarritz.
Entertainment for all audiences
The Santa Maria Polo Club experienced one of the great days of the summer this Friday. In addition to the two finals, the public enjoyed the leisure activities offered in this venue in Sotogrande. Visitors can go shopping at the shops of the Shopping Village, take a drink or snack in the gastrobars, or ride the children in the attractions of the Kid’s Area. In addition, there is live music. This afternoon the Banda del Pelicano performed, and tomorrow Saturday the group Solera 60 will do it.
The organization has implemented a set of security measures to ensure the tranquillity of the spectators, following the guidelines of the health authorities.
