The Aguilas team managed to win the 1892 Isolas Silver Cup with a 4-6 handicap after beating Fray Guen Indi’s team in the exciting final held this afternoon. Thus, ends the second of the trophies that are played in the 49th International Tournament MANSION Polo to be played until August 30 in Sotogrande and organized and hosted every summer by the Santa Maria Polo Club. Tomorrow, Sunday, the Tournament makes a break to host the Championship of Andalusia and Spain Polo for minors, which will be free entry throughout the day. On Monday the Playtech Gold Cup will start.
The afternoon began expectantly on the playing fields of the Santa Maria Polo Club with the numerous publics in the stands and terraces in this festive weekend. The Eagles, with Ricardo Blanco, Mauro Bianconi, Ezequiel Zubiaurre and Jorge Pepa in their ranks, began dominating the match with a comfortable lead of up to four goals after the end of the fourth chukker. But those of Fray Guen Indi, a team made up of Pablo Mora-Figueroa, Cesar Miño, Segundo F. Llorente and Kaveh Atrak, did not stop fighting and in a fifth and exciting half they managed to tie the game. Finally, the Aguilas won the Silver Cup after scoring in extra time and won 9 to 8.
Also, this afternoon, the subsidiary final of the 1892 Isolas Silver Cup was played, with a 4-6 handicap, in which the Santa Quiteria team beat Biarritz-El arte del Vino by a total of 8 to 5. Although the Biarritz team began by dominating the match in the first two chukkers or playing times, the Santa Quiteria team managed to turn it around and keep the advantage until the end.
After the match, the trophy ceremony was held on the same court. Diogo Gallego, representing ISOLA, gave the Isolas 1892 Silver Cup handicap 4-6 to Aguilas, along with Ana Ruiz Dominguez, councilwoman of the City of San Roque, and Rocio Gil Oset, director of Institutional Relations of GILMAR. Again, Ana Ruiz Dominguez, councilwoman of the Municipality of San Roque, gave the trophies to the finalist team, Fray Guen Indi. Segundo Fernández Llorente received the award for best player of the match from Santiago Torreguitar, Polo Manager of the Santa María Polo Club. And the mare Petunia, by Segundo Fernández Llorente, got the trophy for the best horse in the final.
Andalusia and Spain Junior Polo Championship this Sunday
Tomorrow, Sunday, the courts of Los Pinos at the Santa Maria Polo Club will host a very special event. It will be the turn of the youngest and future polo players, who during the afternoon will play the Andalusian and Spanish Junior Polo Championship. More than 50 children will compete in this event, organized jointly by the Andalusian Polo Federation, the Santa María Polo Club and the Royal Spanish Polo Federation. Entrance will be free throughout the day and the shopping area of the Village will be open, as well as the gastronomy stands and terraces. Similarly, the safety and hygiene measures put in place to ensure the tranquillity of the spectators will continue to be implemented.
The Playtech Gold Cup begins
The official competition returns this Monday with the start of the Playtech Gold Cup, the most important trophy of the 49th MANSION International Polo Tournament. On Monday, two handicap matches will be played 4-6: from 17:00 the teams of Biarritz-Arte del Vino and Fray Guen Dusseldorf will face each other on court I of Los Pinos, while the teams of Aguilas and Santa Quiteria will do the same from 18:30 on court IV. And as the Tournament is much more than a sport, on Monday a live performance of the Jerez group ‘Gallagher vs Cobos’ is also scheduled, playing versions of yesterday and today. The Playtech Gold Cup at the level of 12-14 goals, which will be played by five teams, will start on Tuesday.
Tickets for the MANSION International Polo Tournament are sold at the club’s box office or on the website www.tip.santamariapoloclub.com. They are free for those under 15 and over 65. There are also season tickets and discounts. Parking is free of charge.
