This Tuesday began the competition in the Playtech Gold Cup with 12-14 handicap goals, the most important trophy of the three that are played during the 49th MANSION International Polo Tournament. The teams of Sainte Mesme and Los Schatzies were the first to score in this category after selling in two matches held today at the Santa Maria Polo Club, organizer of the competition. In addition to the sport, spectators were able to enjoy a fashion show held in the gardens on the same Tuesday afternoon.
The first match of the afternoon was played by the French team of Sainte Mesme, which was made up of Birger Strom, Robert Strom, Clemente Zavaleta and Salvador Jauretche, who dominated from the start. Their opponent, Kazak’s team, which played with Sebastien Aguettant, Patrick P. Paillol, Matthieu Delfosse and Clement Delfosse, intensified their game the last chukkers or times when a match is divided. But finally Sainte Mesme won 12 to 6 on the scoreboard.
For their part, the Mansion-LaLigaSports and Schatzies teams played the second game of the afternoon, a very tight match. While the Mansion-LaLigaSports team, which plays with Pedro Beca, Patricio Neves, Nicolás Ruíz Guiñazu and Miguel Amieva, began by winning on the scoreboard, the Schatzies, a team made up of Jella Herzer, Gerardo Mazzini, Tomás F. Llorente and Nicolás Álvarez immediately turned the game around and managed to gain an advantage. It would be in the last chukkers when the Mansion-LaLigaSports team managed to reduce that advantage, but finally the Schatzies won by a tight 13 to 12.
Tomorrow the competition will resume in the 1892 Isolas Gold Cup with a 4-6 handicap, with a double round of play. First, the teams of Águilas and Biarritz-Arte del Vino will face each other from 17:00 on court I of Los Pinos. And then it will be the turn of Isolas, who will face Dusseldorf in court IV from 18:30.
