This Sunday a new day of the Playtech Gold Cup with 14 handicap goals was held at the Santa Maria Polo Club, ending with victories for Sainte Mesme and BN Polo Team, current leaders in the classification. This trophy is the most important of the three contested in the 49th MANSION International Polo Tournament, which this Monday enters its last week of competition. The finals will be played on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th.
In the early afternoon, the match between the BN Polo Team, which played again with Babar Naseem, Segundo F. Llorente, Pelayo Berazadi and Ezequiel Zubiaurre, who replaced Silvestre Garros, and the Schaetzies was held. The match started evenly, but in the third and fourth chukker, or time in which the match is divided, the BN Polo Team increased their advantage on the scoreboard. Even though the Schaetzies’ team, formed by Jella Herzer, Gerardo Mazzini, Tomás F. Llorente and Nicolás Álvarez, kept on scoring, finally BN Polo Team won by 10 goals to 5.
The second match of the afternoon was played by Mansion-LaLigaSports and Sainte Mesme, which had among its ranks Birger Strom, Robert Strom, Clemente Zavaleta and Estanislao Grahn. From the beginning the French team of Sainte Mesme took the lead in the scoreboard, extending in the following chukkers their advantage over Mansion-LaLigaSports. The latter, who played with Pedro Beca, Patricio Neves, Nicolás Ruíz Guiñazu and Miguel Amieva, managed to reduce the distance, but finally Sainte Mesme won by 15 to 11.
And with these results, Sainte Mesme and BN Polo Team occupy the first and second place respectively in the Playtech Gold Cup ranking of 14 goals. And as the International Tournament is much more than just a sport, after the matches Eleanor Rigby’s musical ensemble offered a tribute concert to the Beatles in the gardens of the Shopping Village.
The International Polo Tournament faces its last week
Tomorrow, Monday, the 49th MANSION International Polo Tournament enters its last week of competition. There are still two rounds of the 14-goal Playtech Gold Cup to be played, which will give way to the grand final on Sunday 30th; and another two rounds of the 6-goal Isolas Gold Cup, whose final will be on Sunday 29th. And starting with the latter, tomorrow two matches will be played, the first of which will be at 5:00 pm against the teams of Fray Guen Dusseldorf and Santa Quiteria, on court I. And then, Biarritz-Arte del Vino against Isolas, from 18:30.
In addition to the competition, spectators can enjoy the gardens of the Santa Maria Polo Club in the Shopping Village shopping area, with fashion and accessories stores, the terraces and bars next to the courts, as well as the gastronomic area for an informal dinner after the games. For their part, children can have fun in the Kids Area, with attractions and games. Tickets are sold at the Club’s ticket office or on the website www.tip.santamariapoloclub.com. They are free for those under 15 and over 65. There are also season tickets and discounts. Parking is free.
